Purdy Powers & Company will:
• Provide training and resources for the you to successfully accomplish your job objectives in the areas outlined below.
• Welcome and include you to become an important part of our team while also adhering to the company policies and procedures as outlined during the On-boarding and Orientation process.
• You will participate in company meetings as appropriate and regular meetings with the intern’s supervisor and department team members.
• We will provide ongoing feedback regarding the intern’s work in each department and will offer professional suggestions for growth.
• In addition, we will offer learning and training opportunities for the intern to participate in.
• You will have an opportunity to have a breakfast or lunch meeting with company staff, managers and one of the Partners during their internship program.
• We value their ideas and insight and welcome feedback.
Interns will:
• Follow all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Human Resources Orientation and On-Boarding.
• Maintain professional relationships with Firm employees and all clients that the intern has contact with.
• Represent the Firm in a positive and professional way.
• Offer feedback regarding company processes and procedures and with their overall experience with the firm.
• Embrace a “learning” focus with their work during the full internship experience. Challenges are learning opportunities, we want interns to grow and learn while at the Firm.
• Complete a Feedback Evaluation on the Internship Program.
Administrative:
Human Resources will facilitate the Summer Internship Program with the you and Department Managers and Mentors throughout the extent of the program. You will be provided with the necessary information for each of their assignments.
Requirements:
• Pursuing a Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Accounting
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Knowledge and experience with Outlook, Microsoft applications and other technologies as needed
• Excellent communication and customer service skills needed
• Ability to take initiative
• Strong analytical thinking
Preferences:
• Completion of the Corporate or Individual Tax Class, Finance and Intermediate Accounting is preferred
• Experience with QuickBooks is helpful
Internship Schedule:
• Length of internship will be for 8 – 10 weeks as mutually agreed upon, with (x) rotations in the departments listed below
• The Internship is part time, 3 or 4 days per week
• Hours will vary depending on the department’s needs, average 6 – 8 hours per day
Job Outline, Goals and Objectives:
Audit Department
Job Description:
• On-site client visits including work that involves auditing and reviews
• Gain understanding of entire audit process from planning audit fieldwork to preparation of financial statements
• Receive coaching and training on audit software and procedures
• Review prior audit client work to understand the scope of the objectives
• Obtain exposure to various types of financial statements and audits across several different industries
• Participate in education/training opportunities
Tax Department
Job Description:
• Work with Accountants to become familiar with tax engagements
• Become proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns prepared by the firm
• Prepare mock tax returns
• Work with tax team members on complex tax planning projects
• Participate in education/training opportunities
Function Cubed
Job Description:
• Work with Accounting Specialist to understand the Firm’s accounting and bookkeeping services
• Receive coaching and training on QuickBooks desktop and QuickBooks Online software
• Assist with certain accounting and bookkeeping services for select clients
• Understand the relationship between accounting services, tax, audit and administration within the firm
• Participate in education/training opportunities
Administration
Time worked in Administration will assist the Intern to develop an understanding of the operations of our Firm and how the processes are integrated.
Job description:
• Develop client services skills by learning about the customer experience
• Assist with various administrative projects
• Understand the process flow for each department
• Scan/fax firm documents
Additional information:
• Parameters of the Summer Internship position may change as needed to accommodate the needs of the Firm, Clients and Intern.
• We will provide the necessary documentation and review if the intern is pursuing college or university academic credits for the Internship with the Firm.
• Summer Internship position may provide future opportunities for full-time permanent placement.
